Focus: Warm-Up/Passing Drill
Number of Players: 2+
Age: +U5
Level: Easy
Why Use This Drill?
This 2 Player Warm-Up Passing Drill focuses on enhancing players passing skills and first-touch abilities. It is an excellent way to prepare players for a training session or match, helping them build confidence and improve their overall performance on the field.
They also have to work with movement, communication and awareness.
How It Works
1. Variation
The player receives the ball between the cones and takes one touch to either side before passing it back to their teammate. Focus on only using two touches, one directional first touch and a pass.
2. Variation
The player receives the ball in the same way. Now, the player takes one touch over one of the cones and then delivers the pass while in motion. Focus on movement and flow in this variation.
3. Variation
The player now makes a run to one side before receiving the pass. The player who is about to pass the ball looks up and observes which side their teammate is running towards. This exercise emphasizes communication and awareness on the field, as players need to read their teammate’s movements and adjust their passes accordingly.
Other Key Points:
-
Encourage players to stay on their toes, maintaining a state of readiness to receive the ball and make plays.
-
Call out your teammate’s name when passing for better teamwork.
-
The drill should be seen as inspiration. So feel free to adapt the drill to suit your team’s specific needs or focus areas.
