- Adjust the distance between cones and mannequins based on the player’s age and skill level.
Why Use This Drill?
This Finishing with Diagonal Runs Drill is an excellent method for players to practice making well-timed runs and passes through the opponent’s defensive line. It enhances players’ awareness of the offside line and improves their ability to make runs behind defenders without being offside. The players also practice passing and shooting skills.
How It Works
The starting player passes to one of the players on the wings. The starting player then receives the ball back while the winger on the opposite side begins a diagonal run into the pitch, aiming to move behind the mannequins. The starting player then delivers a through-ball to the running winger, who, upon receiving the ball, goes for goal.
Other Key Points:
- Focus on not being offside, while making a run behind the mannequins.
- Encourage players to stay on their toes, maintaining a state of readiness to receive the ball.
